A modernist icon of the space-age era, the Demetrio Tavolino 45 is a timeless classic designed by Vico Magistretti for Artemide Milano in 1963. The Demetrio was produced up until the early 70s.

- Dimensions: Width 45, Depth 45, Height 22.5 cm.
- Condition: Vintage, no chips or cracks.
- Made in Italy.

STORY:

In 1963, Magistretti designed the Demetrio tables series for Artemide Milano, the first plastic table produced by the company.

"I took a basin, turned it upside down, cut off a good part of its sides, and had some tables that could be placed one on top of the other".

The sketches of the Demetrio tell how skilled Vico Magistretti was with plastics; they give an idea of how photographers used plastic boxes to develop their photos by cutting and turning them over into plastic tables.

In those years, the true ideology of plastics and their symbolic role in Italian Design began to emerge: they bear concepts of ​​freedom, democracy & equality.

ABOUT THE DESIGNER:

Ludovico Magistretti, known as Vico, was born in Milan in 1920. He began his professional activity with his father, a well-known architect. In 1939 he enrolled in the architecture faculty at the Politecnico di Milano, where he graduated in 1945. Over the years, Magistretti developed an expressive and unmistakable design language, characterised by pure geometric shapes and essential compositions, considering the object as a response to a need.

Magistretti's projects are highly contemporary and stripped of the superfluous, confirming that "a good design object must last a long time, 50 or even 100 years", as the designer himself claimed.
