Stilnovo was an influential Italian lighting manufacturer founded by Bruno Gatta in 1946 in Lainate, near Milan. The company emerged in the post-World War II era, focusing on innovative lighting designs that embodied rationalist, form-follows-function principles during a time of scarcity and rebuilding in Italy.
In the 1950s and 1960s, Stilnovo became renowned for its prestigious and cutting-edge lighting designs for both public and private spaces. The company's products were characterized by their use of high-quality materials like brass, aluminum, and opaline glass, often featuring sleek, geometric forms typical of mid-century modern aesthetics.
In the mid-1960s, Bruno's son Dino Gatta invited renowned designers to collaborate with Stilnovo, turning the company into a hub for progressive design ideas and material experimentation. Notable designers who created lamps for Stilnovo include Joe Colombo, Cini Boeri, and Ettore Sottsass.
