Three glass plates, one cut per corner, no blown glass, no mould, Mart van Schijndel built a vase the way an architect builds a house.
The Delta Vase was designed by Mart van Schijndel in 1981, constructed from three identical frosted glass plates glued together with silicone, a radical departure from traditional blown glass manufacture. The form shifts completely depending on viewing angle, triangular from the front, diamond from above, asymmetric from the side. The design won the prestigious Arango International Design Contest in Miami in 1984 and is held in the permanent collections of MoMA New York, Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam and Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen Rotterdam. Hand-engraved signature by Van Schijndel on the glass confirms 1980s original production.
