Three Alessi 'Carlo' ghost bottle caps by Mattia Di Rosa in aqua blue, cobalt blue and magenta pink, from the Family Follows Fiction metaproject that redefined what a designed domestic object could be.
Family Follows Fiction was an Alessi initiative from the early 1990s that set out to explore the emotional and affective potential of everyday objects and the idea that functional items could carry psychological weight and narrative meaning beyond their utility. Carlo, the little ghost, is one of the most enduring results of that project. Mattia Di Rosa, born in Carrara in 1969 and working with Alessi since 1992, gave Carlo a character that is immediately legible with arms raised, expression open, a presence that is playful without being trivial.
The three-color combination here in aqua, cobalt and magenta colorway is an earlier discontinued colorway, distinct from the current Alessi production version. Each piece carries the original Alessi stamp on the rear.
