VEB Haldensleben Fat Lava Vase, Zigzag Relief, East Germany GDR, 1960s MCM Ceramics.

Vintage MCM fat lava vase by VEB Haldensleben, one of East Germany's most distinctive ceramics manufacturers, featuring a bold continuous zigzag relief in saturated orange and yellow with raised charcoal ridges.

The decoration runs in continuous bands around the cylindrical body with raised charcoal ridges in a fluid zigzag rhythm over a ground of saturated orange and yellow, the contrast between the matte sandy glaze of the neck and base and the raw energy of the relief below it is exactly what makes Haldensleben pieces worth seeking out.
